Holly Hunter, an American actress and film producer is known for her acclaimed performances in movies like Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles. The actress has received numerous awards for her work, including an Oscar. The talented actress began her career as an actor on the stage through a variety of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. As a child, Helen Keller was her favorite character in a 5th class show. She was born deaf in the one ear after suffering from the mumps virus, however she did not allow this handicap to hinder her desire to be an actor. While in college, she studied drama after which she relocated to New York City with her plans to achieve them. In a chance encounter she got trapped in an elevator along with writer Beth Henley and the two collaborated in the play 'The Broadway Crimes of the Heart' which was Hunter's first performance. When she moved to Los Angeles, Hunter tried to find movie roles. The role of a supporting actress was secured in Swing Shift. Holly Hunter has been in numerous movies, television shows as well as movies throughout the span of a 30 year career. Holly Hunter was awarded a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star and the Women in Film Lucy Award.
